Paragraphs upon paragraphs

Genre - opening title sequence research task.

World war Z.

The beginning of world war Z is set with a seaside shot of waves lapping up onto the beach, then flicks from there to a photo of slums, this is a negative interpretation of difference between the first and second shot. Then goes to birds flocking and starlings migrating / moving away creating a negative sense very subtle but clever editing. Then from there to a estate in USA - then to a house on a Dutch angle with a grime filter. Then another Dutch angle showing houses in a row - to a train full of people getting off at a station, looks as if they are going back to their house? Flicks from a busy AC country goes back to a Porter lidc?

The narrative from this sequence in world war Z is very ominous and subtly creepy, it sets it up by showing different aspects of life then at the end of the sequence the life is all gone there is then some gory videos of animals eating each other then in the end its humans killing and dying, setting the rest of the movie with a scary / horror feeling.

The target audience for this film is people from the age of 16 - 25 years old and probably male as zombie horrors is the perfect setting for people of such age. We know this from the opening sequence s its grew some, but not so horrifying that it terrifying people to even watch the movie, it is built up slowly meaning it effects you sociologically. This is then set at the end how there is blur patch on the body aa its set from cctv but also because there is a aged limit of who will watch the trailer.

The genre is set up in the opening sequence as there is a lot of death and suffering giving it a sad feeling then as the humans Start to appear more and more in the opening the scarier / more serious the images get. Showing that humans are the issue of the trailer showing something is going to happen within the human species.

There is one charecter introduced i nthis opening scene (brad Pitt) we know he is a father of two, suggested by photos. Technical aspects such as camera shots of camera lenses on pictures. Camera used as Dutch angle and track shot to show the focus of the scene such as brad Pitt. This creates effect as it feels robotic as with a hand held there is inevitable movement of camera. There is music which builds up tension between the charecters such as brad Pitt. I think this is a very successful opening scene.

1917 - WAR MOVIE

1917 is a war movie the narrative given to us in this opening sequence is that they have started in a war zone (ww1) this makes us especially t there to be a lot of gore and guns and violence as that is how it was in a war zone.

This target audience is for everyone, this is because a 70 year old man who’s parents was alive would mean a lot to watch the movie as there could be a connection but at the same time a 14 year old could watch this and get the same experience. We know this as it is historically correct in 1917.

The genre of a film movie is set from the opening backwards pan as the camera hovers through a field of men lying down with guns and helmets on, this shows the genre is war and action. We know this from the technical aspects as a whole field of men suggests a war zone as they don’t want to be seen. There is 2 main characters introduced as they are woken the camera stays on them the whole time following them through trenches and fields, until there is an officer of importance it switches onto him.

There are 2 characters introduced we know they are foot soldiers (privates) they are fighting at the front line as there is trenches and they have been sent on a mission. One is more of a main character as the camera is always focused mainly on him. There has only been one track shot this creates an irl feeling of how long it takes to Gwen places and what you see.

There is only the sound of subtle gun fire in the background, but then in the foreground diegetic talking and screaming there is little bit of music - would not fit war ground. This shows the quietness of scene shows their importance.

There are no editing techniques as ut us one pan shot. I think this scene is extremely successful as to create a sense of war and silent horror from where they go. The fact it is one shot altogether means it is greatly successful.

Action movie - free guy

Free guy is a action movie the narrative given in this movie is that the main character (Ryan Reynolds) discovers he is in a alternate reality / video game. We expect the rest of the movie to be funny / action packed family friendly.

The target audience for this movie is 12 - 18 year old people this is because the video game genre would not match to people younger or older. This would also probably not be funny as its meant for this certain age group. We know this also from the gentle approach of the opening sequence.

The genre of the film is set in the opening part of the movie as there is a lot of fighting and action such as suggested meaning this creates a sense there will be a lot of fighting and action through out the movie. Conversations such as that he’s the main character “guy” an ncp doing good.

There are 3 main characters introduced the Baddie, the hero and the heroine. This from technical use aa there is music change, clothes difference voice and action difference. Camera angles such as Dutch or off side camera angles show how hectic the world he is in is. This have been used as it shows the future action to be used.

Threre is a lot of diegetic and non diegetic noises such as gun shots, explosions, shouting and screaming. This effect shows the isolation those in the fictional world are experiencing. The editing techniques such as hand held or pov shots have been used to show the pov or effects the video game or the characters will have.

I think this scene is very successful as setting up the scene and showing how the villain created this world and yet he wants to destroy it?

London has fallen - thriller.

The narrative from the beginning pan shot of London is falling in a anarchy as many different tourist sights get blown up. The target audience for this movie is 15-30 yer old men. We know this as the subject is topical to them.

The genre of the film is set up straight away as there is an explosion, this showing it is an action thriller with the tension of the main plot showed throughout. Only two people are introduced, this is good as it shows the fact they re either important or the main parts of the film.

The camera work has been a pov on the outside of the car of a motorcyclist then a over shoulder shot from inside the car to create tension. This has been used to show being exposed then to being protected.

There is a lot of diegetic sound such as over exaggerated shots and crashing cars. This increases the tension of the scene as if he will be caught or not. This then makes the characters look tough as they are going through all of this.

There was a lot of flash editing and there was some slide shots so from side profile to the top of person in a car? This is not a opening scene as it sucks up most of the action from the movie.

Arrival - sci fi.

Arrival is a thriller the narrative given is that this Alien has landed on earth and these scientists start to communicate with them they then start to evolve. The rest of the movie will be about the discovery of the aliens real intentions.

The target audience for this movie is 15-25 year old boys as this is a action thriller this means a lot of action. The genre is set as a mystery thriller this is as the sphere appears things start to change showing power when they then go up shows this is not a horror but in-fact they are just visiting.

There are three main characters introduced as shown on the front of the movie cover. They are then set up to have different views but all have the sae goal of trying to find out about the aliens and where they originate.

There is silence then the entrance of the alien there is symbolic music appearing then there is loud as the army confronts the aliens. The editing techniques such as Dutch angle and the swish slide of the camera in the intro of the movie to create a creepy but awesome discovery. I think this is a successful opening scene as it is the most scenic and coolest out of them all as its then quietsest and least explained and yet covers all three aspects of a great movie.
